Schools & Universities
Understanding the challenges
At DRD, we understand the unique challenges facing the education sector, from schools to universities. In a changing landscape shaped by funding pressures, regulatory shifts, and complex stakeholder needs, we partner with educational institutions to protect their reputations, manage key relationships, and influence policy developments. Our education practice is built on deep expertise, supporting institutions as they navigate these challenges to achieve their goals.
DRD provides tailored, strategic support across the education sector, helping both schools and universities respond to key challenges.
Schools
With increased scrutiny on safeguarding and pupil well-being, school leaders are tasked with meeting high expectations from parents, communities, and regulators. Moreover, the Labour Government’s “war on private schools” has caused significant and unprecedented financial pressures to the independent school sector. DRD works with schools to build trust, engage with key stakeholders, and communicate their commitment to high standards of care.
Universities
Universities are also navigating their own complex challenges. Financial pressures are mounting despite the rise in tuition fees implemented by the Government in November 2024. At the same time, universities are responding to a dip in international student recruitment following recent immigration changes. Additionally, universities continue to address the fallout from recent industrial disputes over staff pay, pensions, and working conditions, which have affected campus stability and their ability to conduct day-to-day activity. Institutions are also managing complex issues around student safeguarding and welfare, free speech and political activism – all of which are of key interest to the press, who are keeping a close eye on the situation and ready to report any perceived failings.
How We Help
DRD provides tailored, strategic support across the education sector, helping both schools and universities respond to these challenges while effectively communicating their values and priorities. Our services include:
- Strategic Communications: We support institutions in articulating their goals and objectives, managing sensitive issues, and responding to policy changes, ensuring effective dialogue and understanding with key groups (for example government, regulators, parents and students), in order to achieve their goals and address challenges proactively.
- Crisis and Issues Management: Schools and universities often face unforeseen challenges, from safeguarding concerns to industrial disputes and employee litigation. DRD’s crisis management expertise helps institutions respond effectively, protect their reputation, and build resilience.
- Policy Engagement and Advocacy: DRD assists in navigating complex policy environments, helping schools and universities engage with policymakers to advocate for fair funding, regulatory relief, and sustainable educational practices.
Our education practice offers the strategic guidance that school and university leaders need to navigate today’s challenges and seize new opportunities, ensuring they are well-positioned to make a lasting impact, which in turn will ensure their long-term reputation and financial health.
